Before starting, fully switch off the forklift and remove the ignition key. Wear insulated gloves and protective goggles. Disconnect the main battery connector to eliminate any current flow. Work on a level, well-ventilated surface, free of flammable materials.
Lift the hood or battery compartment cover. Locate the retaining clips, pins or bolts securing it to the chassis. Traction batteries can weigh up to 700 kg; use appropriate lifting equipment such as another forklift, overhead crane or hydraulic jib.
Carefully disconnect the positive (+) and negative (–) power cables. If the connector or cables are damaged, replace them along with the new battery. Check polarity: red to (+) and black to (–). Reversing polarity can cause severe damage.
Use non-conductive slings or straps to avoid contact with terminals. Lift slowly while keeping the battery level, and place it on a stable surface. Avoid impacts or tipping of the assembly.
