Yale forklift batteries

The traction batteries for Yale forklift trucks are an essential component to ensure the autonomy, power and safety of these electric machines. Choosing the right model and maintaining it correctly allows you to take full advantage of its performance and extend its service life.

In this guide you will find practical information on how to select the right battery for your Yale model, learn about the different types of technology available, and apply good installation and maintenance practices to ensure maximum reliability and performance over time.

Practical guide: how to identify the compatible battery

Correctly identifying the compatible battery for your Yale forklift truck is critical to ensure performance and avoid replacement errors. Here are the essential steps to check that the new battery conforms to the original specifications.

VIDEO – QUICK GUIDE

How to identify the compatible battery for your Yale forklift truck

  • Where to find the nameplate.
  • What measurements and voltage to record.
  • How to read the reference and number of cells.
  • Common mistakes and how to avoid them.
Practical guide to identify the correct battery

1. Check the nameplate

Locate the truck’s nameplate, usually located on the chassis or near the driver’s seat. There you will find the key data: model, nominal voltage (V) and capacity (Ah). These values determine the type of compatible traction battery and prevent replacement errors.

2. Measure the battery compartment.

With the forklift off, measure the inside of the metal box where the battery is installed. Measure the length, width and height, leaving a small margin for ventilation and extraction. Avoid common mistakes such as mounting a battery higher or heavier than recommended, as this may affect stability or make it difficult to close the compartment.

3. Check the connector and polarity

Check the type of connector (DIN or REMA, depending on the model) and its position inside the compartment.
Make sure that the polarity of the cables matches that of the equipment, as an incorrect connection may cause electrical faults or damage the charger.

4. Yale forklift truck models and compatible batteries

How to choose a Yale forklift battery?

Before replacing the battery in a Yale forklift truck, the actual working conditions and equipment characteristics should be analyzed. This step ensures that the new battery is suitable for the intended use, maintains the required power and offers optimum energy efficiency.

The main factors are the type of operation (single or multiple shift), the temperature of the warehouse and the required capacity (Ah) according to the day and the weight of the loads. Correctly evaluating these variables helps to optimize loading cycles and reduce premature system wear.

It is also essential to respect the technical standards defined by Yale, such as voltage, compartment dimensions and connector location. Following these specifications ensures compatibility, safe installation and reliable long-term operation.

Knowing these differences is key to selecting the right battery and ensuring compatibility with each truck model.

How much does a Yale forklift battery cost?

The price varies depending on the technology and voltage of the equipment. Below you will see indicative ranges and how to estimate the TCO.

Yale original and compatible batteries: key differences

Yale electric trucks can be equipped with either original manufacturer's batteries or compatible versions manufactured by specialized companies. Both options offer safe and efficient operation, as long as the same electrical and mechanical parameters of the equipment are respected.

At Rebatex, through our Voltem brand, we develop traction batteries fully compatible with Yale models, meeting the quality and safety standards required by the European standard EN/IEC 60254. These batteries match the performance of the original ones and offer additional advantages such as customized manufacturing, local maintenance and a more competitive cost.

To ensure compatibility with each model, the following technical parameters must match:

Voltage (V) and capacity (Ah)
Chest dimensions and total weight
Connector type and position and polarity

Choosing a certified and correctly sized battery ensures safe installation, consistent performance and long service life of Yale electric trucks.

How to install a new traction battery in your Yale truck?

Replacing the battery of an electric forklift truck requires caution and the use of the proper equipment, especially because of the weight and voltage these systems handle.

By following these steps you will be able to do it in a safe, orderly and efficient way:

Assembly and replacement procedure for traction batteries in electric forklifts.

Disconnect power and prepare the area
Before you start, completely switch off the Yale forklift truck and remove the ignition key. Wear insulated gloves and safety goggles. Disconnect the main battery connector to eliminate any current flow. Work on a level, well-ventilated surface, free of flammable materials.
Lift the hood or cover of the battery compartment. Locate the retaining brackets, pins or bolts that fix it to the chassis. Traction batteries can weigh up to 700 kg; use suitable lifting equipment such as another forklift, an overhead crane, or a hydraulic jib.
Carefully disconnect the positive (+) and negative (–) power cables. If the connector or cables are damaged, replace them together with the new battery. Check polarity: red on the (+) terminal and black on the (–) terminal. A reversed connection can cause critical damage.
Use non-conductive slings or straps to avoid contact with the terminals. Lift slowly, keeping the battery level, and place it on a stable surface. Avoid shocks or tipping of the assembly.
Align the battery with the chassis compartment and use lifting equipment to slide it in smoothly until it is fully seated. Secure the original fixings and check that the wiring is not pinched or bent when closing the cover.
Connect the terminals, respecting polarity. If possible, tighten with a torque wrench (around 23 Nm on lead terminals). Connect the main connector and carry out a full first charge before putting the battery into service.
Check that the state-of-charge indicator works correctly and that there are no leaks, strange smells or overheating. Log charges and discharges from day one to extend service life and keep the warranty valid.

Why does the choice of battery impact the performance of your Yale truck?

The traction battery is the element that determines the actual performance of a Yale electric forklift truck. Its capacity, voltage and condition directly influence lifting power, working range and operational safety.

An adequate and well-maintained battery keeps the traction force constant throughout the day, reducing charging times and avoiding unnecessary stops. On the other hand, a deteriorated or inadequate battery can cause overheating, loss of power and higher energy consumption.

Main signs of wear or failure:

Symptoms of battery wear or failure:

  • Significant reduction in autonomy between charges.
  • System or charger overheating.
  • Loss of power in elevation or traction.
  • Longer or irregular loading times.

Detecting these symptoms early and replacing the battery prevents further damage to the truck and improves equipment productivity.

Maintenance and accessories that extend service life

Good maintenance makes the difference in lead-acid (Pb) traction batteries: more stable autonomy, fewer breakdowns and longer service life.

Recommended systems and accessories

  • Automatic filling (BFS/Aquamatic): fills all cells at once, fast and safe.
  • Distilled water carts/knobs with filter and hose.
  • Intelligent HF chargers with IUIa curve, programmable equalization and load recording.
  • Level/temperature indicators and terminal protectors.

Routine use and loading

  • Charge at the end of each shift; avoid going below 20-30% charge.
  • Equalize according to manufacturer (e.g., weekly or every X cycles).
  • Add water only after charging and up to the marked level (distilled water).
  • Maintain ventilation of the cargo area (as per EN 62485-3).

Temperature and storage

  • Optimum temperature: 20-25 °C. Continuous heat accelerates degradation; cold reduces autonomy.
  • Long shutdowns: store at 50-70 % and maintenance recharge every 4-6 weeks.
60″ maintenance checklist
  • Correct electrolyte level (add distilled water after charging).
  • Cables and connectors without looseness or abnormal heating.
  • Battery surface clean and dry, no sulphation.
  • Charging log and equalisation records kept up to date.
