Here we describe how to start a vehicle with a discharged battery.
For this we need a Starter cable with its corresponding clamps corresponding, this will allow us to pass the energy between the batteries. We must verify above all that the clamps exert the sufficient pressure in the terminals of the batteries.
The starter wiring harness consists of a black and a red wire and corresponding clamps at each end. The red wire connects the positive (+) terminals and the black wire connects the negative (-) terminals. black wire connects the negative (-) terminals.
The steps to follow:
1. We approach the cars and position them in a safe place. We turn off the engines and activate the brakes. We open the hoods and secure them.
- With the wiring harness in hand, we will connect them in the following order:
a) Connect the clamp of one of the red cables to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery.
b) We connect the other end, the other clamp of the red cable to the positive terminal (+) of the charged battery.
c) We connect one of the clamps of the black cable to the terminal (-) of the charged battery.
d) DO NOT CONNECT the other clamp of the black cable to the discharged battery, BUT CONNECT the black clamp to any metallic area of the car.
Once the cables have been correctly interconnected, start the engine of the battery-charged car and let it run for a few minutes so that the other vehicle can charge. About 3 minutes will be enough. After this time, start the car engine with the discharged battery and check that it starts.
When you go to disassemble the wiring, do it very carefully. First remove the black wire that is connected to the metal part. Then the negative terminal of the working battery and then the red cable (first the clamp of the good battery and then the one of the dead battery).
In order for the battery to regain its charge, then you will need to put the car in motion and drive.
We recommend that you visit the workshop to make sure that the reason for the discharge is due to a damaged battery and that the vehicle has a major fault.
